Battery Combustion Tester

The Battery Combustion Tester is a critical device designed to evaluate battery safety under extreme thermal conditions. It complies with international standards such as IEC 62133, UL 1642, and GB 31241-2014, ensuring reliable test results for global safety certifications.

Applicable Standards

  • Global Compliance: Aligns with IEC 62133 (portable batteries), UL 1642 (lithium-ion safety), and GB 31241-2014 (lithium-ion safety requirements).
  • Multi-Scenario Testing: Simulates combustion, thermal runaway, and fire propagation scenarios to assess battery integrity.

Working Principle

The machine uses a propane-fueled burner to generate controlled flames, which are directed at battery samples. A PLC system adjusts flame height and duration, while sensors monitor real-time temperature, voltage, and gas emissions. The test chamber is equipped with exhaust vents to manage fumes and maintain operator safety.

Test Principle

  1. Setup: Fully charged batteries are secured on a mesh platform in the chamber.
  2. Combustion Execution: The burner is ignited, and flames are adjusted to a set height (e.g., 38.1mm above the sample) to simulate thermal stress.
  3. Post-Test Analysis: Batteries are assessed for structural damage, leaks, and toxic gas emissions. Thermal imaging and gas chromatography data validate compliance with safety thresholds.

Key Advantages

  • Versatility: Suitable for lithium-ion, NiMH, and lead-acid chemistries.
  • Precision: Advanced sensors ensure accurate measurement of thermal events.
  • Safety: Enclosed chamber with auto-extinguish features and emergency vents.

This machine empowers manufacturers to mitigate thermal-related risks, ensuring batteries meet stringent safety standards and reducing field failures.
