Comparison of Martindale Flat Grinding Method and Taber Wear
The abrasion resistance of leather is the resistance to abrasion possessed by leather. Leather wear is an important cause of leather damage. Although the wear fastness of leather has not yet been assessed as a national standard, the wear resistance test of leather is still indispensable to measure its quality. It has extremely important significance for the identification of leather fastness to wear. Next, Shanghai Qianshi introduces two detection methods:
According to the different instruments used in the experiment, there are two commonly used methods: Martindale flat grinding method and TABER wear-resistant method.
1, Martindale abrasion method (10000 times)
(1) Refer to the specification: "GB/T21196-2007 Martindale method of fabric abrasion resistance determination".
(2) Experimental equipment: There are many types of fabric flat grinding machines. The Martindale wear-resistant tester is the most commonly used in testing professions, so the flat grinding method is often referred to as the MARTINDALE friction testing machine method.
(3) Experimental principle: The circular sample installed in the sample holder of the Martindale Abrasion Tester is carried out with the plane movement of the Lissajous figure and the abrasive (ie the standard fabric) under the specified load. Friction, the sample holder can rotate freely around its axis that is straight with the horizontal plane. Determine the wear resistance of the leather based on the total number of times of friction of the sample damage.
(4) Experimental method: During the experiment, the test sample of a certain scale is in contact with the standard abrasive under the specified pressure, and the sample is moved relative to the abrasive in the Li Sharu trajectory, so that the test sample is uniformly worn in multiple directions.
2, Taber abrasion method (1000 times)
(1) Refer to the specification: "GB/T2726-2005 Determination of Wear Resistance of Leather Physical and Mechanical Experiments".
(2) Experimental instrument: TABER abrasion resistance testing machine
(3) Experimental principle: Pre-grind for 25 revolutions. Place the tested sample on the horizontal channel of the TABER wear-resistant testing machine and rotate. The two grinding wheels are given a specific pressure to press on the test piece. Optional. The axis of the grinding wheel is aligned with the horizontal plane. In parallel, with one grinding wheel facing outwards and the other facing inward, all changes in the test piece are recorded within a certain period of time.
(4) Experimental method: Use a cutter to cut a sample with an outer diameter of 108mm and an inner diameter of 8mm. Then stick a hard sticker of the same size on the back of the sample. Place the center hole of the sample on the rubber pad of the screw, cover the pad, and fix the sample with a compression nut. Then put on the fixing ring, and tighten the fixing ring screws with a wrench. Install two H18 grinding wheels on the support arm. Each grinding wheel exerts a force of 250±10g on the tested sample, ensuring that the side with the label is facing outwards, so that the load of the grinding wheel is 500g, connect the vacuum cleaner, and vacuum the vacuum cleaner. Connect the tube to the connector on the left side of the machine and start the vacuum cleaner. Set the number of tests according to the specifications, and set the rotation speed to 72 revolutions. Then start the start button, start the instrument with a rotation speed of 60±5 times/min, rotate it horizontally, and perform the test according to the required number of times. In the experiment, use a brush to remove the attachments on the sample surface, observe the wear condition of the experiment, grind the leather to the specified end point, and record the final number of revolutions.
Judging from the test methods of the above two experiments, the results of the test methods for the wear resistance of different materials are not the same. The MARTINDALE friction test machine method expresses the wear resistance through the end point and appearance changes. The TABER abrasion tester method is to record the number of frictions as an indicator of wear resistance.
It is of little significance to compare the test results obtained by using different materials and using the same experimental method, but the conclusions drawn from these results are consistent. Therefore, any method can independently quantify the wear resistance of the material. Comparing the above test results, it can be seen that under normal conditions, the material of natural leather is softer, so the wear resistance is poor. Coated leather has a harder texture and is not easy to wear, so it has better wear resistance.
For leather products, the wear resistance is also related to the product size, shape, test environment, wearing environment, subjective error, instrument accuracy, etc. Therefore, we need to make as many aspects as possible when judging the wear resistance of leather. Consider various factors and get a more objective answer.
