BS 4790 Carpet Flammability Tester Test Method Details
BS 4790 Carpet Flammability Tester is used to detect the burning effect of small fire sources on carpets to evaluate the flammability and flame retardant properties of carpets when subjected to small flames. It is suitable for carpets with various tissue structures and fiber components.
Applicable standards:
GB/T 11049, GB/T 14768, BS4790, ISO6925, BS6307, US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) CFR1630/1631
Test principle:
Under the specified conditions, the samples in the horizontal position were exposed to the action of a small fire source, namely hexamethylenetetramine tablets (hereinafter referred to as tablets), and the damage length and flame spread time after the test were measured.
Sample humidity conditioning:
Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the sample to remove debris such as loose fluff on the fluff head.
Select one of the following methods to adjust the humidity of the sample according to the specific situation.
Method a: According to the provisions of ISO139, the sample is placed in a standard atmosphere with a temperature of (20±2) °C and a relative humidity of (65±4)% for 24 hours, and then taken out and placed in a sealed container.
Method b: After drying the sample in an oven at (105±2) °C for 2 hours, move the sample into a desiccator until it reaches room temperature.
main feature:
1. With measuring grid and snap ring;
2. The skateboard is easy to operate;
3. The mirror is easy to observe;
4. Suitable for two different test methods;
5. Safe operation.
Test Methods:
1. Hot nut method: stainless steel nut is heated to 900 ℃ in a muffle furnace. Put the sample to be tested into the test box, and place the snap ring on the sample with crucible tongs. The heated nut is placed on the retaining ring, and the nut is removed after 30 seconds. Measurements can then be made to evaluate the spread of the sample fire point.
2. Polymer plate method: It is recommended to place the test box in a laboratory fume hood. The conditioned sample is placed on a removable base in the test chamber, and a metal pan with rounded cut edges is placed on the sample. The polymer sheet is placed in the center of the sample and ignited. After the flame is extinguished, measurements can be made to evaluate the effect of combustion.
