Textile vertical flammability tester children's pajamas ASTM D6545 test
The ASTM D6545 test method is used to evaluate the relative flammability of textiles and clothing for children's pajamas and sleep pants. The test and washing procedures of this method refer to the flammability test of children's pajamas and sleep pants in the United States Federal Act 16 CFR 1615 and 1616. The vertical flammability tester is a test instrument. This method is used to evaluate the durability of textile flame retardancy. For children's pajamas and sleep pants, the flame retardancy of the original state and after 50 washing and drying cycles must be tested.
As a modern technology enterprise integrating R&D, manufacturing, sales, training, and service, Standard Group (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. is committed to delivering more testing instruments to the market, providing testing instruments for textiles, leather, combustion, automotive interior and exterior trims, material environmental climate aging, etc., and non-standard customization is also acceptable. Targeted tests can be carried out according to customer requirements before purchase to ensure that the purchased instruments are applicable.
Experimental parameters:
1. Sample size: 80mm×300mm
2. Ignition mode: automatic
3. Ignition time: 12 seconds
4. Ignition device diameter: Φ11mm
5. Afterburning time and smoldering time: 0~999.9 seconds
6. Flame height: 40mm high
7. Use gas: propane or butane or liquefied petroleum gas
Test principle:
This method adopts the vertical method and ignites at the lowest point of the sample to test the flame speed. During the entire test, the sample is placed vertically and ignited the sample with a flame length of 38mm (1.5 inches) for 3 seconds. The flame-burning speed is determined by measuring the distance from the lowest point of the sample to the point where the creased sample breaks under a certain force.
Test sample and sampling:
Test sample: If the size of the cloth piece is 8.9*25.4cm if the tested sample contains seams and decorations, or if the sample is a ready-made garment, the test sample should contain seams or decorations.
Test sampling: According to the sampling plan of 16CFR1615 and 1616, 5 test samples are cut from the cloth pieces, seams, decorations, or finished garments.
The test samples must be cut into specimens with a length of 254±3mm and a width of 89±3mm. 2-3 test samples should be taken along the length direction of each piece of tested raw material, and 2-3 test samples should be taken along the width direction to ensure that 5 test samples are taken for each tested sample. Each test sample has data, and the test results are averaged from the above 5 samples. Fabrics used for children's pajamas and pajamas need to be tested in their original state and after 50 washes, but for fabrics that have not been flame retardant treated and these fabrics do not have multiple special functions, it is not necessary to test the results after 50 washes. For clothes made of these fabrics, as long as the fabrics can meet the federal standard flammability requirements in their original state, they can be considered to meet the flammability requirements in their original state after 50 washes. This standard does not list the sampling plan for fabrics and garments, but it is equivalent to federal regulations. Please refer to 16CFR1615 and 1616 for details.
Test procedure:
01. Turn off the exhaust fan, turn on the gas, and adjust the needle valve so that the burner flame height is 38mm (1.5 inches). Turn on the burner and close the test chamber door for at least 5 minutes. Then dim the room light and adjust the flame height so that the height from the upper end of the burner flame to the top of the visible part of the flame is 38±2mm.
02. Take out the sample holder with the sample from the dryer and hang it on the hanging rod of the test chamber. Close the door and move the flame so that the bottom of the sample is just above the center of the flame.
03. When the sample is taken out of the dryer, it should be ignited within 30 seconds. After the sample is ignited for 3.0-0.2 seconds, move the burner to the other side to end the ignition.
04. When the flame or embers have been extinguished, open the fume hood for a sufficient time to exhaust the smoke in the test room and the fume hood. At the same time, please pay special attention to the toxicity of the smoke and combustion residues in the test room. Avoid inhaling these fumes and use appropriate breathing equipment.
05. Remove the sample clamp from the test room. Since the sample clamp and the test sample may be hot, please pay special attention when removing them.
06. Remove the sample from the sample clamp and press a wrinkle along the length of the sample starting from the high position of carbonization or damage.
07. Open the sample and insert a dome hook 6.4±20mm from the bottom of the sample on the side away from carbonization, and hang a heavy hammer on the dome hook.
08. Gently lift the other end of the sample that is not hung with the heavy hammer until the heavy hammer is just lifted off the work surface so that the burned sample is torn apart until the sample can withstand the specified force.
09. Use a ruler to measure the carbonization length from the end torn by carbonization to the ignition point of the sample, and indicate this length in the report.
10. Repeat 02-09 until all 5 samples are tested.
11. For the test results, please indicate the average carbonization length of the 5 samples and the maximum carbonization length of each sample.
