Liquid Moisture Management Tester Test Experiment Analysis

The Liquid Moisture Management Tester (MMT) mainly tests the absorption and diffusion performance of sweat in fabrics. The absorption and diffusion of sweat by fabrics directly affect the comfort of clothing. To improve the comfort of clothing (especially sportswear fabrics), it is very important to test the liquid moisture management ability of fabrics, which helps evaluate the moisture absorption and quick-drying performance of textiles and improve the performance of materials. Shanghai Qianshi Precision Electromechanical Technology Co., Ltd. is the manufacturer. Customers with needs are welcome to call for inquiries. The Liquid Moisture Management Tester is used to measure the overall dynamic performance of liquid in knitted and woven fabrics, by testing the absorption speed (water absorption time on the front and back of the fabric), unidirectional conductivity (difference in liquid absorption and diffusion on the two sides of the fabric), and diffusion/drying speed (diffusion speed of liquid on the two sides of the fabric). The Liquid Moisture Management Tester includes upper and lower concentric liquid sensors with multiple probes. The infusion tube in the upper sensor will evenly drip a fixed concentration of saline simulating human sweat onto the fabric. The sensor probe tests the resistance between different rings, and the change in resistance reflects the absorption and diffusion of liquid in the fabric, thereby obtaining the fabric's ability to absorb and diffuse sweat.

Working principle:
The liquid moisture management properties of fabrics depend on their water barrier, water repellency, water absorption capacity, fiber and yarn capillary action, and fiber and yarn geometry and internal structure. The liquid moisture management tester can measure the water absorption, penetration, and penetration time of fabrics, and can objectively evaluate the three-dimensional humidity diffusion and transfer characteristics of fabrics.
The instrument consists of two concentric sensors. First, the sample is fixed horizontally between the sensors with a fixed pressure, and then the standard test solution is delivered to the sample surface for testing. The computer can dynamically record the resistance changes of the upper and lower sensors.

Test principle:
The fabric sample is placed horizontally. After the liquid water contacts its immersed surface, the liquid water will diffuse along the immersed surface of the fabric and transfer from the immersed surface of the fabric to the penetration surface. At the same time, it diffuses on the penetration surface of the fabric. The change process of water content is a function of time. When the test liquid is dripped into the immersed surface of the sample, the dynamic transfer status of liquid water is measured by using the sensor in close contact with the sample, and a series of performance indicators are calculated to evaluate the moisture absorption, quick drying, perspiration and other properties of the textile.

Place the sample in the instrument with the side in contact with the skin facing up, and pour a certain amount of physiological saline on the center of the side of the fabric in contact with the skin to simulate the process of human sweat discharge. Sensors on both sides of the sample measure the water transfer performance within each circle (5mm, 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, and 30mm in diameter). After a 2-minute test cycle, the fabric's wetness and water transfer increase. Through a series of calculations, the tester can get an accurate reading of the wetting time, water absorption rate, wetting radius, and diffusion rate of the fabric on the skin side, as well as the cumulative one-way transfer capacity and the overall liquid moisture management capacity (OMMC) of the fabric.

The transfer index and overall liquid moisture management capacity have attracted the attention of many technical fabric manufacturers. Studies have shown that using these numbers and the "fingerprint" provided by the liquid moisture management tester, users can classify fabrics into 7 levels: waterproof, water repellent, slow absorption/slow drying, fast absorption/slow drying, fast absorption/fast drying, water penetration, and liquid moisture management. After the fabrics are classified according to their final application, users can compare different fabrics using the index measured by the liquid moisture management tester. At this point, people will know which fabrics are suitable for the use environment without having to conduct tedious physiological tests.
